In Loving Memory of

Bonita Thomas

December 16, 1960 – June 20, 2026

“Let your light shine before others, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:16

On Saturday, June 20, 2026, Bonita Thomas peacefully entered eternal rest, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, compassion, and unconditional love. Though her earthly journey has ended, the light she shared with so many continues to shine through the lives she touched.

Born on December 16, 1960, in New Orleans, Louisiana, Bonita was the beloved daughter of the late Winifred Woodruff (née Gomez) and the late Walter Woodruff. Raised in the vibrant culture of New Orleans, she developed a lifelong appreciation for music, community, and celebration. She remained deeply connected to her hometown throughout her life, proudly cheering for the New Orleans Saints, enjoying the excitement of Battle of the Bands, and sharing her love for the rich traditions of Southern culture.

Bonita attended Booker T. Washington High School before continuing her education at Xavier University of Louisiana, where she became a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated®. Although she was no longer active after her college years, she faithfully embodied the sorority’s principles of Sisterhood, Scholarship, and Service throughout her life. She later transferred to the University of Washington, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a minor in Social Work, a milestone she was especially proud of.

Bonita was blessed with three children who became the greatest joy of her life: Tallayia Thomas, LaHaji Thomas, and Cavorisous Thomas. She embraced motherhood with unwavering devotion, encouraging her children to pursue education, trust God, work hard, and always serve others with compassion. Her guidance, strength, and unconditional love remain among her greatest gifts to them.

A woman of steadfast faith, Bonita loved the Lord and lived her beliefs every day. She found joy in worship, gospel music, and praise through interpretative dance. Her favorite scriptures reminded her that God is “our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble” and that His strength is made perfect in our weakness. Even during her courageous journey with cancer, Bonita chose to focus on the promises of God rather than the uncertainty of her circumstances. She met each day with hope, gratitude, and a quiet confidence rooted in her faith in Jesus Christ.

Her love for children led her to faithfully serve as Daycare Director at Knowledge College, where she nurtured, encouraged, and inspired countless children and families. To Bonita, caring for children was not simply a profession—it was a ministry. She believed every child deserved to be loved, supported, and given the opportunity to thrive.

For nearly 26 years, Bonita proudly served as a dedicated employee of Alaska Airlines. Known for her professionalism, kindness, and servant’s heart, she cared deeply about the people she encountered each day. Her career reflected her love for helping others while allowing her to pursue another lifelong passion—travel. Whether exploring new cities, experiencing different cultures, or simply enjoying the beauty of God’s creation, Bonita embraced every opportunity to see the world with wonder and gratitude.

Bonita lived life with joy. She loved traveling, sunshine, music, fellowship, and spending time with family and friends. Her warm smile, gentle spirit, and welcoming heart made people feel seen, valued, and loved. She carried herself with grace and humility, believing that true greatness was found not in recognition, but in serving others.

Bonita was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Winifred Woodruff (née Gomez) and Walter Woodruff.

She leaves to cherish her precious memory her loving children, Tallayia Thomas, LaHaji Thomas, and Cavorisous Thomas; her devoted younger brother, Glenn “Big Wolf” Woodruff, whose steadfast love and loyalty were a constant source of strength throughout her life; along with cherished nieces, nephews, extended family members, lifelong friends, church family, former colleagues at Alaska Airlines, former students and families of Knowledge College, sorority sisters, and countless others whose lives were enriched by her kindness and compassion.

Bonita’s legacy is not measured solely by the places she traveled, the titles she held, or the years she lived, but by the countless lives she touched through faith, service, generosity, and love. She demonstrated that a life surrendered to God is a life well lived, and she leaves behind an example that will continue to inspire generations to come.

“The greatest among you will be your servant.” Matthew 23:11

“Well done, good and faithful servant.” Matthew 25:23
