Obituary

James Fred Bennett, 70, of Tacoma, Washington, born November 3, 1949, gained his wings in the comfort of his own home, surrounded by his family, on January 26, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents Fred and Annie Pearl Bennett, and brother Jimmy Bennett. Fred graduated with a Bachelor's in Engineering from the University of Findley, then joined the US Navy, rising to the rank of Petty Officer E5 aboard the USS Orleck. His superior knowledge of the everyday operations and duties as Assistant Section Leader greatly enhanced the competence of the OI Division. He took great pride in maintaining a high level of proficiency for himself and his crew. After he was honorably discharged, he began a career at Praxair as Operations Plant Manager and retired from Greater Lakes Mental Health in 2017. Fred loved sports—especially football—where his favorite team was the Seattle Seahawks. He spent his free time watching various sports games live and on TV, and he played football and basketball in his youth. He also enjoyed tinkering around the house, and was always there to help relatives and friends with household projects. He coached different sports or whatever else people needed him for. He had a passion for jazz music, and classic Motown. He loved his riding music on road trips. Fred is survived by his wife Louise of 46 years, daughters Tuashua Ware and Fredrisha Bennett, sons Jamie Bennett, Tehere Bennett (Ryan Henneck), Terence Bennett, and Michael Mack (Deeschaunis Mack), sister Rosemary Sutton, grandchildren Nathaniel Ware III, Terrell Ware (Corey Connors), Sierra Ware, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family. Fred was a loving father, husband, brother, grandfather, and friend to everyone. Fred was the most compassionate, loving, humorous and caring person. His love for family, friends, and his faith made him a pillar of strength. He was a great mentor and will be truly missed by all. A special thank you to the people at Salish Cancer Center in Fife, WA for their loving care and support during his final days. Funeral services for Fred will be at Brotherhood Church of God, at 2124 Martin Luther King, Jr., Way, Tacoma, WA 98405, on Saturday, February 1 ,2020, from 1:00 to 3:00 PM. Repass to follow directly in the fellowship hall.
