Jeraldene
Morris
March 15, 1938 – March 25, 2026
We thank God for the life of Jeraldene Morris. She was born on March 15, 1938 to Matthew Molena and Addie Mae Barnes in Homer, Louisiana. Jeraldene was a twin and the second of eight children, four of whom - Jestine Williams, Emma Scruggs, Matthew Barnes Jr., and Bennie Barnes - preceded her in death. Her family moved to Richmond, California during her early childhood. Jeraldene attended Richmond public schools, graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1956, and later continued her education at Contra Costa Community College. Jeraldene accepted Christ as her personal Savior at a young age where she attended St Peters Christian Methodist Episcopal Church. She later joined Ennis Chapel Church of God In Christ where she served as an Usher, Prayer Warrior and dedicated Choir member under the leadership of Bishop Ennis. Following the passing of Bishop Ennis, Jeraldene transitioned her membership to New Gethsemane Church of God In Christ where she faithfully served on the Usher Board and as Pastor’s Aide President to Pastor Archie Levias for many years. After relocating to Tacoma Washington in 2015, Jeraldene joined True Vine Community Church of God In Christ under the leadership of Pastor Leo C. Brown Jr., and after his passing, she continued her faithful service under Pastor Ronelle C. Jones. Later, she became a member of Greater Works Fellowship Church where she served as one of the eldest church mothers under the leadership of Pastor JR Nobles. Jeraldene was a devoted mother of three children: Ray, Laminda (Mindy), and Rosalyn. She worked tirelessly to provide for her children, ensuring they felt supported, loved, and grounded in faith. Her compassion extended far beyond her home. Jeraldene served her community with humility, kindness, and a willingness to help wherever she was called. She served her community diligently as a poll worker during local and national elections. She cared for students with dedication in her roles as a bus monitor and school yard monitor. A dedicated Certified Nurse Assistant, Jeraldene spent many years caring for those who could not care for themselves. Her gentle hands and compassionate heart touched countless lives. Whether tending to patients, comforting families, or going above and beyond for those in need, Jeraldene embodied what it meant to serve with kindness and dignity. Jeraldene was rooted deeply in her faith. She loved God with her whole heart and lived as a true Prayer Warrior, lifting others in prayer and offering comfort, encouragement, and hope to anyone in need. Jeraldene went on to glory surrounded by her family at home on March 25, 2026. She was a loving devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. Jeraldene is survived by her children, Ray (Donna) Morris; Laminda (Joseph) Lawyer; and Rosalyn (Deon) Guillory, whom she shared with her former spouse, James C. Morris Jr. Along with her children, she leaves to cherish her memory three siblings: Genera (Robert) Fryer; Ladell Manion; and U-sef (Mary Hein) Barnes; twenty-two grandchildren; fifty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-great grandchildren; life-long friend, Christine Alexander; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends. Jeraldene will be dearly missed by those she loved and by those who loved her! Special thank you to mother, sister, daughter dear friend and prayer partner, Mother Virginia Caroll; Caregivers Althea Faison, Gwendolyn Darks, and Marian Dao; Pierce County Case Worker Kari Humphrey; Nurse Rachel Robb and colleagues of Virginia Mason Franciscan Hospice; and with much love and special gratitude to Jeanette Allen, Alicia Rance, Tiffany Jennings, Mother Doris Gaffney, Elder Michael Phillips, Missionary Anita Phillips, and Missionary Marilyn Wynn.
