Mary Ann
Hursey
May 3, 1940 — Aug 11, 2026
Puyallup, WA
With hearts full of love and cherished memories, we celebrate the life of our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend, Mary Ann Hursey, whose earthly journey came to a peaceful close on August 11, 2026.
She was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Estelle Trammell-Beeks; her loving husband, Joseph; her beautiful daughter, Nodra; and her two cherished grandsons, Demar Hursey and Joseph Hursey. She left behind Her children: Dr. Phyllis Hursey, Helen (Arthur),Joseph M(Sharon) Lisa (Dewayne), and Jason (Kelly). Sister’s in law Carol, Brenda, and Brother in law Anthony. Her grandchildren: Kiesha, Taneesha ,Sharlene, Caleb, Javonnte, Malia, Naja, Empress, Jahsan, and Khasiem. And a beautiful legacy of 20-plus great-grandchildren, each of whom carries forward a piece of her love.
Mary Ann was born on May 3, 1940, in Hartwell, Georgia, to Estelle Trammell-Beeks. She was raised in a loving family where love was not only spoken but demonstrated daily, shaping the foundation of the woman she would become.
While in Washington, D.C., Mary Ann met the love of her life, Joseph. Their courtship was brief, but , “when you know, you know.” That certainty led them to marriage on April 20, 1958, in her aunt’s home. What began as a short courtship blossomed into a beautiful and enduring love story. Together, they shared more than 68 years of marriage, remaining faithfully devoted to one another until death did they part.
Mary Ann and Joseph went on to raise their family of six children, building a home where love was not simply spoken IT WAS SHOWN!! Together, they taught their children by example to love out loud, love unconditionally, and forgive gracefully. These lessons became one of the foundation of their family legacy.
Mary Ann not only modeled unconditional love for her children, Her greatest joy was her family. The love she had for her children was unmatched, and she loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren with the same depth and devotion. To Mary Ann, family was family, and there was always room for one more at her table and in her heart. She also lovingly embraced her children’s friends, who were welcomed into her home and treated as her own.
Mary Ann was a kind, loving, God-fearing woman whose faith was the center of her life. She had a heart for people that seemed to have no limits. She prayed for anyone she encountered and for all those she loved, offering sincere and powerful prayers freely to those in need. She was also known for moments when the Spirit would move her in a powerful way. Her faith was not something she simply spoke about it was something she lived daily and shared openly with others. Mary Ann carried a deep compassion for those who were struggling and never hesitated to help someone in need. She opened her home to others, offering clean clothes, hot meals, and anything else she could do. She believed in caring for people without expectation, even when they had nothing to give in return. Her home was a place of refuge, warmth, and unconditional love. She leaves behind a legacy carried on through her loving family: That was certainly demonstrated while she was still here with Helen and Symphony caring for her till her last day.
Mary Ann’s life cannot be measured simply by the number of years she lived, but by the countless lives she touched. Her prayers, laughter, generosity, faith, compassion, and unconditional love will continue to live on through generations of her family.
Though our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing that the woman who spent her life praying for others is now resting in the presence of the God she loved and served.
Her earthly presence will be deeply missed, but her love will never leave us. She is reunited with her loving husband, her mother, her daughter, and her grandsons.
