Patricia Ann Creer, lovingly known as “Pat,” was born on June 21, 1940, in Arlington, Virginia, to Maggie Sanders-Allen and James Allen Sr. She was the fifth of twelve children.
When some of the younger children were sent to Mississippi to live with relatives, Patricia later traveled there after coming of age and helped reunite her brothers and sisters, bringing them back together in Birmingham so the family could once again be together.
Patricia met and married Alexander Creer in Birmingham, Alabama. Through their union, Patricia welcomed three boys and a daughter into her family, and Patricia and Alexander later welcomed two daughters together.
Patricia was a woman of determination and perseverance. Although circumstances had required her to leave school as a teenager to care for her family, education remained important to her. Years later, she returned to school and proudly earned her GED through Tacoma Community College.
Patricia was also a proud breast cancer survivor since 2013, facing that chapter of her life with the same strength and resilience that characterized so much of her journey.
But if there was one place where Patricia’s love could truly be felt, it was around her table.
Sunday dinners were something special. Patricia’s table could be filled with collard greens, chicken, macaroni and cheese, cornbread, potato salad, her famous banana pudding, sweet potato pies, and other homemade favorites. Somehow, no matter how many people showed up, Pat always seemed to have enough food to feed everyone.
Patricia’s life was defined by family, faith, sacrifice, perseverance, generosity, and love. From helping raise her younger siblings, to opening her home to children who needed her, to feeding a house full of family and friends, Patricia spent a lifetime caring for others.
Patricia Ann Creer will truly be missed, but never forgotten.
